A simple guide to investing in a security door. Security screen doors might not be the first item that comes to mind when buying or remodelling a home. Picking out the newest furnishings or kitchen appliances is much more thrilling, choosing a security door is probably more important than the colour of your interior walls.

The final choice rests with YOU, the homeowner. However, there are numerous things to think about when considering the best option.

What budget do you have in mind? Or are flying insects more of a worry for you? Maybe you reside in a high-crime area? Maybe Privacy is a major factor if you live in a built-up area, the environment that you live in can also affect your decision, maybe you live by the sea or on a windy hill. Or your house may require air circulation more than other houses.

There are numerous security doors on the market, and it can be overwhelming, we’ll take a broad look at these characteristics in this article. You will also be able to find more information about each by visiting our product pages

Three Different Types of Security Doors to Consider

Stainless Steel or Aluminium Mesh Doors

The most durable and favoured screens are those made of stainless steel or Aluminium. If you’re worried about security and don’t want to feel confined by a security screen door’s grille.

These are undoubtedly the most expensive, but the product’s durability outweighs the expense, especially in your permanent residence.

Visit our product information pages to find out more about the different styles

and the qualities the two offer stainless steel doors or aluminium mesh doors

Diamond Grille

These security screen doors, which were very popular a decade ago are still widely installed. These are distinguishable by the main frame’s diamond grille design and come in a variety of colours. The fly screen mesh, once fastened, creates a product of a security screen and bug protection, and the grille is constructed of non-corrosive aluminium as well.

Fly Screen Doors

Typically, these kinds will keep out flies and other undesirable flying insects. These can have a variety of mesh kinds and are made with an aluminium frame. Notably, while some meshes are constructed of nylon, higher-quality varieties are composed of fibreglass and are longer-lasting. If you are a pet owner you may consider paw proof mesh, it may be a little more expensive, but it is resistant to scratches.

Keep Quality in Mind When Choosing a Security Screen System

Check to see if the doors you choose adhere to Australian Standards if security is your top priority. The criteria are merely recommendations in Queensland, where no regulatory body has the authority to implement them.

The National Security Screen Association is working towards a standard that will eventually give consumer protection and be required by law, although currently they are limited to making recommendations for the sector.

It’s important to be mindful that some goods may be advertised as “security screens” when they may merely be a barrier door.

Here is a summary of the key characteristics you might want to consider when buying a security screen door:

A Robust and Good Quality Frame

Most frames are created from aluminium. Aluminium doesn’t rust, which is its fundamental benefit. Look to see how the corners are connected, you preferably want aluminium corner stakes for hinged doors and aluminium or nylon corners for sliders of fly screen doors.

Sturdy Screen or Mesh

Your best option is a stainless-steel mesh that is fastened into the frame because it is the most secure. Doors made of .316 marine grade stainless steel are non-corrosive and are powder-coated black to offer additional rust prevention protection.

Hinges and Locks

Although it may seem obvious, the locks must be powerful enough to fend off even the most determined intruder. Locks with five-pin cylinders are advised. The door should be fastened to the frame with a minimum of three hinges.

There is no point in investing in a high-quality door if the door jamb is weak, simply using enough power to break the door frame leaving the safety door intact would be enough for any intruder to make their way inside.

Triple locks should be used on all security doors.

Security Screen Installers Company Reputation

Your doors should be installed by a reliable company. Look up their number of years in operation and read a range of evaluations. Verify their existence online using Google reviews, Facebook, the Yellow Pages, and even Hi pages. Reviews are a great way to get an idea of how the business operates on a variety of levels, from supply and installation on the day to discussions with the administrative staff to customer service and handling of potential problems along the way.

Warranty

Examine the warranty’s terms and conditions; Some warranties promote certain time frames but have several exclusions, and they typically only cover the frame and not the lock or the door’s installation. Some of the limits that are based on the warranty terms and conditions can be deemed unreasonable and would prevent you from ever being able to make a claim.
